Mauston, Wisconsin
Situated on
the edge of what was once a great glacial lake in Wisconsin, Mauston
-- the county seat of Juneau County --
was named after M.M. Maughs, owner of a dam and sawmill built on the
Lemonweir River in the early 1850's. Maughs dropped the "gh"
from his name, added a "ton" and the rest is history.
A central location in Wisconsin puts Mauston -- situated along the Lemonweir
River -- in close proximity to an incredible variety of
attractions and recreational opportunities in all four seasons!
There is an 18-hole golf course, volleyball and tennis courts, picnic
areas, bowling, hunting, swimming, biking, snowmobiling, skiing,
boating and fishing and, as the retail center of Juneau County, has
plenty of shopping and dining venues too. And nearby to
Mauston are the state's 2nd and 4th largest lakes: Petenwell and
Castle Rock.
With the
charm of a small town and plenty of opportunity for growth, Mauston
is a great place to be, offering something for everyone!

Cars,
Trains and Ducks!
We decided to simply go scout out a lake not far from a familiar
destination and return again at a later date to fish...
Suddenly Lauren said: "Why don't we go just for fun and spend the
night - we can go have dinner at that little place where you once
had a blue gill fish fry?"

Filleting
Walleye
When I was about 10 years old, my father took
me fishing in Ontario to a place called Lac de Milles Lacs. It was
some of the best walleye fishing I have ever seen. More
importantly, I saw my first walleye cleaned and filleted by a
family friend who was also on the trip. Ray was as fast with a
fillet knife as anyone I have ever seen... |
